What is a Latte Macchiato?

A latte from the Italian caffe latte, meaning "coffee and milk" and Macchiato meaning "a spot of" which is the coffee that instead is first added and then the milk is reversed and added on top of the milk to make the drink layered, increase the strength of the coffee and also extra foam is added to the drink to allow the room for the espresso shot.

How to Make a "Starbucks" Latte Macchiato

A caffè macchiato differs from a caffè latte in that in a latte, espresso is added before the steamed milk is poured, rather than the reverse. The most important element in preparing a latte is the texture and temperature of the milk. First purge the steam wands of any fluid that may be inside, when a barista steams the milk for a latte macchiato, microfoam is created by introducing very tiny bubbles of air into the milk, giving the milk a velvety texture. The traditional latte macchiato consists of steamed milk that the barista pours, resulting in a 1cm thick of milk foam on top depending on what you prefer and then the addition of a espresso shot of coffee added on top of the milk. Attaining the correct ratio of foam requires close attention while steaming the milk.
