Todays headlines:

Andy Carroll returned to the squad after a knee injury he picked up in April. Raul Meireles, meanwhile, was not fit enough to play after picking up an injury against Fulham last week.

William Gallas was out for Tottenham, and is unlikely to play again this season. Ledley King was fit enough to play having made a comeback from his recent groin injury. Gareth Bale (ankle), Benoit Assou-Ekotto (hamstring), Heurelho Gomes (back) and Jermaine Jenas (thigh) were all unavailable.

First Half Goals:

Good value they were for it too, from the moment Rafa van der Vaart's edge-of-the-box volley clipped Glen Johnson and looped into the far corner of the net.

Second Half Goals:

When the superb Modric capped his own wonder show by drilling home a hotly-disputed penalty 10 minutes after the break, there was only ever one outcome on the cards.

This gave Tottenham the last remaining Europa League place and a 5th place finish for the end of this season.
